Next Generation Learning Analytics: Or, How Learning Analytics is Passé:

"'Learning Analytics,' as so many know it, is already passé. There is almost always a disconnect between research innovation and the popular imagination. By the time a new concept or approach achieves widespread acceptance, its popular identity and applications too-often lag behind the state of the field."

I agree with Timothy Harfield that learning analytics designed for learners - and not administrators - should be the next generation of analytics. Features such as OnExamination's norm-referenced indicators of performance rely on centralised coordination and mass use. How would a more distributed model of performance analysis appear? How could learners take more control of their data?
