"In its ongoing effort to make MOOCs more and more like traditional
education, Coursera has launched 'mentor-guided courses' for the cost of
$US 248."
I like Stephen Downes and the way he pokes fun at the big MOOC companies. Their aim though is simply to try and monetize their courses. The mentor approach is a challenging one unless they can stimulate a market of mentors wishing to take a share of the revenue. The mentors - for scaling to any degree - would need to be at a level of expertise below the course designers. Spreading core faculty this thin would simply not work but getting slightly more experienced learners to mentor others might.
