Letter to Cardiff University School of Medicine urging a review of 2020 student admissions

Just sent this to the undergraduate admissions team and the head of school at my old college.

"To the admissions team Cardiff University School of Medicine.

I write as an ex student of Cardiff School of Medicine having graduated in 1990.

If you haven't already could I urge you to review all the students who applied but have missed their conditional offers to ensure that the diversity of admissions to the medical school have not been affected?

This has been an unprecedented year and one that demonstrates that we need a robust and highly committed workforce in healthcare more than ever.

You may consider relieving the anxiety of students and welcoming those eager to study in Cardiff by acting now to make those offers unconditional. Where this affects student numbers you may further consider deferred offers for 2021.

As someone who came from a state school and was in the first year of 6th form at my school with no history of previous A level results, I feel I would have been in the same position as some disappointed students who have missed their conditional offers because their predicted grades were downgraded.

(Update 16/Aug/2020 - Had a reply from the Head of School saying they are working on a plan.)
