In the domain of biosciences and drug development more accountability (e.g. the FDAAA 2007), editorial and peer-review training (as suggested by the Cochrane Collaboration), and statistical techniques (as championed by AllTrials) help.

Transparency on behalf of publishers has also been suggested. A paper in the BMJ in 2017 said, "Industry payments to journal editors are common and often large, particularly for certain subspecialties. Journals should consider the potential impact of such payments on public trust in published research. … all journals should develop and implement a transparent, publicly accessible editorial conflicts of interest policy. Secondly, editors in chief should consider excluding those with considerable industry relations from editorial positions."

When pharmaceutical companies develop innovations for certain patient populations there may be a very small number of senior clinical leaders to collaborate with on research and education. How should they be approached?
