Then I highly recommend this best-selling book by Adam Kay - a trainee doctor in the NHS having burnt-out in his training before becoming a fully qualified Obstetrician. It is important reading for anyone wondering how the world of busy medical staff could be ‘improved’.
This is not only a UK problem of the NHS where this author is based, but global. As the pace of change, the expectations of society, and the brutal distance between individual healthcare practitioners and those who lead their organisation grows we are facing an enormous retention problem in medicine.
There needs to be space for humanity in healthcare and an understanding by those who are leaders that healthcare systems are complex, precious, and imperfect.
